You would think that having an investor tell you “no, we’re not interested in investing in your startup” would be the last thing you would want to hear when you’re raising money. When we were raising our initial funding, we pitched 63 investors that passed on investing.
That’s a lot of rejection. And you would think that’s a lot of no’s we heard.
However, the reality is that most investors don’t say no when they pass on investing in your startup. You know what they say?… That’s right, nothing. You’re met with complete radio silence.
Then, you just don’t what’s going on. You wonder, “Is the investor interested? Did they email you and end up in your spam folder? Did they call you and you didn’t get the message?”
Nothing sucks more than radio silence.
That’s why, even though it’s painful to hear no, hearing no is a blessing. You can cross the investor off your list for this round of funding, and you can focus your energy on the other possible investors in your startup.
